Welcome to the Pine Grove School Website. P.G.S. can be found in the picturesque, New England town of Avon, Connecticut. Avon is recognized as one of the most outstanding communities for education in the state of Connecticut and historically ranks as one of the best places to live in Connecticut by Connecticut Magazine. Pine Grove School children are successful learners who have the benefit of the latest and best in books, technology, curriculum, and school programs. The school's dedicated and talented faculty is committed to working cooperatively with parents to meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of all its children. Teachers and parents working together have established a school wide motto "Together We Share, Discover, Create and Achieve." All members of the Pine Grove School community have embraced this motto and one only needs to enter our school doors to see it for themselves.
Each September our entire school community acknowledges our commitment to creating a positive school climate by signing our school pledge. The words of the pledge were carefully selected by our Safe School Climate Committee which is comprised of staff, community members, and parents. Each word/character trait is explored throughout the year during character education classes, monthly character clips (short clips featuring students acting in skits about good character), whole school town meetings, and during daily morning meetings in individual classrooms. All members of the school community prioritize time during the first 6 weeks of school to establish positive behavioral expectations and practice how each of our shared spaces throughout the school should look, sound, and feel. Our pledge can be found below. It takes the place of the typical rules you find in many public schools. It was written with the intent of replacing rules that tend to be written in negatives, with traits representing those qualities anyone would be proud to strive for.
"As a member of the Pine Grove School Community; I promise to be a respectful, responsible person, to work hard and to make Pine Grove School a safe and comfortable place for everyone.";
Pine Grove School works to realize the mission of the Avon Public Schools, to inspire in each student a joy and passion for learning and a commitment to excellence, personal integrity, and social responsibility. Throughout their time at Pine Grove School, students experience a curriculum that is designed to meet each student at their independent level, works to bring them to their full potential and appropriately prepares them for their future success. Our students regularly achieve at high levels as evidenced by performance in state and national testing. While these performance results make us proud, it is the innovation, philanthropy, and dedication to success of our students and faculty that have made Pine Grove School the very special place it is today.
